Michael Lane was the third ghost of Batman, a supervillain engineered by Simon Hurt to see of the caped crusader could be replaced one day.
Biography[]
After his son was killed and his wife commit suicide, Michael Lane was put through a series of training by Simon Hurt that made him the Bat-Devil. Haunting Batman for a short while, Lane, with the Bat-Bane, eventually attacked the Batman, although his attack was unsuccessful. Later meeting up with Hurt once again, Lane was later recovered by the Order of Purity who gave him the Suit of Sorrows and trained him to become Azrael. However, Lane believed himself to have failed as Azrael and prayed every day, later forfeiting the Suit of Sorrows to the Batman.
